We have to act NOW to save Paul

Paul was kidnapped in August 2020. As of today, he has been unlawfully detained for 663 days. That’s 663 days he has been denied access to his heart medication (the family thinks he has suffered several small strokes as a result). That’s 663 days he has been denied his human and civil rights. That’s 663 days he has been held in isolation (the United Nations views solitary confinement as torture).

Since Paul was taken, I have been working with the Paul Rusesabagina Hotel Rwanda Foundation and No Business with Genocide to bring him home. He is a Belgian citizen and a permanent U.S. resident. I cannot say this enough. If the leader of one country can kidnap the citizen of another nation and throw them in prison because they don’t like their statements no one is safe.

Please call Congress and tell your representative to support this important resolution.

H. Res 892:

• Calls on the Government of Rwanda to immediately release Paul Rusesabagina on humanitarian grounds and permit him to return safely to the United States;

• Calls on the Government of Rwanda to ensure Paul Rusesabagina receives access to appropriate, qualified medical professionals and all medical care necessary to guarantee his physical integrity and psychological well-being;

• Urges the United States Government in all interactions with the Government of Rwanda to raise the case of Paul Rusesabagina and to press for his immediate release on humanitarian grounds; and

• Expresses support to the family of Paul Rusesabagina and their commitment to bringing Paul Rusesabagina home.

This is personal to me as I know Paul and his family but it should be important to anyone who wants to prevent and stop genocide.
