While it is hard to see how we can ever truly live up to the promises made to all of us, I like to think we are making progress. It is hard in the era of Trump, who has so clearly let the more racist people in our nation think it's ok to say the quiet parts out loud (maybe they should so we can deal with what has been an undercurrent for too long).

If the US has a throughline, and I think we have more than one, it is racism and sexism. White men don't want to reliquish power and white women have been enablers or worse.

I hope we will get to a better place. It won't be under a President Trump.
