What Gives Me Hope for Trump 2.0

While I am still recovering from the election, there have been some developments that give me hope for the next two years. Here are a few:

Senator Rubio as Sec State

While I don’t hold out too much hope that Senator Marco Rubio’s (R-FL) seat can be won by a Democrat, it is possible, but not likely. I support Rubio’s selection as Secretary of State because I think he is a good choice.

  • Rubio is a strong supporter of international religious freedom. We take that for granted in the United States (though I know antiseminism is way up). According to the State Department, 80 percent of the world’s population is subjected to restrictions their religious expression. Earlier this year, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCRIF) was reathorized. We now need a strong ambassador to that commission. Rubio voted for the reauthorization. Given his support for the Uyghurs and statements on religious freedom, I believe he will be a strong voice for this issue. I don’t know if it is worth noting that I am an atheist but I will fight for everyone’s right to practice their religion (within reason, I am not pro human sacrifice or cruelty to animals but you know what I mean).
