We need to do more to fight antisemitism in the United States
Last week, it was Kanye West. This week it was Donald Trump. What will it be next week?
Antisemitic incidents are WAY up in the United States. According to the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), anti-Jewish actions (violence, vandalism) have increased by leaps and bounds over the last few years.
It is in that context that Kanye West threatened to go “Death con 3” on the Jewish people and former President Donald Trump posted to social media:
“No President has done more for Israel than I have. Somewhat surprisingly, however, our wonderful Evangelicals are far more appreciative of this than the people of the Jewish faith, especially those living in the U.S.
“Those living in Israel, though, are a different story — Highest approval rating in the World, could easily be P.M.!”
“U.S. Jews have to get their act together and appreciate what they have in Israel — Before it is too late!”
Words have weight. They have power. There is a reason we have a saying, “The pen is mightier than the sword.” You can’t kill ideas. Another common saying in politics is that, “As soon as you compare someone to Hitler, you lose your argument.” While I am not really comparing Trump to Hitler…
