Your support for basic human rights seems to have some holes in it
Congresswoman Ilhan Omar (D-MN) was my hero. She grew up in Somalia and emigrated to the United States from Kenya, where she was living in a refugee camp. That was in 1995. From there, she moved to Minnesota. She is the personification of the American Dream. Watching her career and her campaign success reminded me of what is good about America.
Minnesota holds a very near and dear spot in my heart and life. My grandmother, Judy Clarke, was my “north star.” She was active in local politics so now I am, too. She grew up in Duluth and retired to Minneapolis. A lot of my value system comes from her and Minnesota. Six members of my family live in Minnesota’s 5th CD.
This year Omar broke my heart
Yesterday, Omar introduced a resolution condemning the Indian government for human rights violations in that nation. She has also introduced legislation to strengthen the International Criminal Court.
