We all said the Dobbs decision was just the beginning, now we know for sure

Margaret Atwood has said “The Handmaid’s Tale” was not intended as a feminist work and that she simply wanted to ‘give women a voice’ in the dystopian genre.” Unfortunately, there seems to be a decent percentage of the United States that is very ok with changing it into the Republic of Gilead (the brutally oppressive regime in the book, movie, and television series).

American men have a long history of oppressing women

Donald Trump’s election to the presidency was not the start of this. Right-wing politicians have been looking to turn the country into a Christian caliphate since before we became independent. Virginia’s original charter, creating the first colony in 1609, included language that said its purpose was “to convert the people in those Parts unto the true Worship of God and Christian Religion.”

Contrary to myth and legend, the Puritans did not come to this land to promote the religious freedom of all people, just for themselves. They followed the teachings of John Calvin and were all about starting a theocracy in the New World. Only their religion was welcome in the areas they colonized. They killed Quakers for not…
