Still fighting to bring Paul Rusesabagina home
I have written a decent amount about Paul Rusesabagina and the fight to bring him home. I am working on the event in the image with Two Joke Minimum and the New York Comedy Club. You see I am a white woman who has never been to Rwanda. Those criticisms are very true. I am very white and have only been to Tanzania. I did work at the UN for a few years (after the 1994 genocide) and read a lot about the violence that spilled over from Rwanda into Congo. It’s funny how Rwanda makes so much money selling minerals and gems that don’t come from within its own borders. Where do they get them? Congo.
I used to buy into the narrative that Paul Kagame was a good guy. That his Rwandan Patriotic Front ended the genocide and restored peace to that country. I clung to that view long after I knew about the horrors happening in Congo. I worked at the UN Information Centre and contacted the press constantly for over a year about what was happening in that nation. The stories I read about people jumping with their children into crocodile-infested waters to flee the rebels made my blood curdle. I clung to that image of Kagame as hero because the people I respected embraced him. Bill Clinton embraced him — I am guessing…
