If “Democracy Dies in Darkness,” WaPo Just Went Very Dark
The job of the media is to speak, truth to power, not suck its dick
The issue with the Washington Post’s decision to not endorse presidential candidates, though they have said they will endorse down-ballot candidates, is disturbing beyond words. That Jeff Bezos stepped in himself to nix an already written endorsement — and this would be the same if they had endorsed Donald Trump — shows the paper lacks any journalistic independence or integrity.
This is often a worry when large corporations take over media outlets. Will the editors, writers, anchors, and producers have the freedom to cover the news or will they have to run things by the ownership?
Sinclair Broadcasting is a perfect example of too much corporate interference. They own a ginormous number of television stations around the nation. Think the news reported — locally — is written by those local stations? It’s often not. They send scripts to local channels with what news to read. They’ve been pushing their own agenda for years and the “news” is often anything but.
