I think you are onto something. My mother, who doesn't think she is racist but probably is, often refers to people she meets as "that nice Black couple" or "the cutest Hispanic girl"... That's the racism that keeps the uglier kind going. I don't know what to do about it. WIth my mom, I call her out on it but she has dementia so that doesn't work.
