Thank you, Donald Trump, for standing up to the tyranny of the National Archives
Since the nation’s founding, the National Archives and Records Administration has served as the repository for the nation’s important and sensitive documents like the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. When a president departs the White House, they appoint people to coordinate the Archives’ retrieval of all government documents. That includes any work documents (including notes) done while the president was in office.
Trump thinks he owns anything he can see or know about (remember when he asked about annexing Greenland?). After FBI agents searched (NOT raided) Mar-a-Lago and confiscated 400 documents (about 700 pages) of documents labeled anything from “Confidential” to “Top Secret: sensitive compartmented information,” which is the highest top secret level, he demanded his lawyers get the documents back. They don’t belong to him and they could put the nation in jeopardy, and remember, he is an expert at monetizing ANYTHING, so this makes about as much sense as sending Vladimir Putin the nuclear football.
