You couldn’t get me to get on this if you paid me $250,000

As I am sure you are aware, last Sunday, five people got into an experimental vessel, made with substandard materials, and that was steered with a Gameboy console. OceanGate was widely criticized for cutting cords on safety. Yeah, that’s $250,000 well spent.

James Cameron, who knows a thing or two about the Titanic has been an outspoken critic of OceanGate told ABC News:

“I’m struck by the similarity of the Titanic disaster itself, where the captain was repeatedly warned about ice ahead of his ship, and yet, he steamed up full speed into an ice field on a moonless night,” Cameron said. “And many people died as a result and for us very similar tragedy where warnings went unheeded to take place at the same exact site.”

The drama captivated the nation. The Coast Guard was mobilized. No expense was spared to rescue these five people. Friends of mine have confided that they are devastated by this. If you don’t think society only cares about the rich, think again.

Barack Obama had the same idea when he went on CNN and talked about the disparity between the media coverage of this tragedy and the more than 700 people who died trying to escape persecution and oppression. Their shipwreck was one…
