Dobbs was just the beginning
When they ended Roe with Dobbs, the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) gave individual states the right to ban abortion (or not) as they see fit. The result has been a plethora of new laws (or revival of old ones) banning all abortion, abortions after six weeks, or bans at other times. This has had far-reaching effects for women around the nation. Pregnant women have been turned away from emergency rooms, which violates federal law. The Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA) should prevent hospitals from denying care to people in a medical emergency but doctors have been so worried about going to prison for providing care that could either lead to a miscarriage or having to provide even emergency abortions, women are sent packing.
I wrote about this the other day when I was giving President Joe Biden suggestions about how to talk about abortion. I wrote he should talk about women who have been hurt by the Dobbs decision.
