One of the classic moves of an authoritarian is to create a boogeyman for people to fear. They build up the fear, whip people into a frenzy, and then those people are easier to control. They then claim they can fix the problem, kill the demon, and restore safety and security to the masses.

I have never been interested in conspiracy theories because they are often way too complicated to be possible. The same people who think the government is inept think it has made up the moon landing, for instance. As if government workers could keep a secret like that for 55 years.

My belief system has always been closer to Occam’s Razor. In a nutshell, it states that, all things being equal, the simplest explanation is probably the truth. Today’s right-wing is all about conspiracies and conspiracy theories. I thought the idea that shape-shifting aliens who worship Satan and both eat and have sex with babies (QAnon) was as nutty as people could get but I was wrong. Here are some of the wacky ideas being pushed.
