Any Day That Doesn’t Start With a Dead Body Starts Off Good
It’s funny how some things change your perspective
(Trigger alert, this may have some stuff that some people will find disturbing.)
Someone asked me how I was doing a few weeks ago. Without thinking, I said, “Well, I haven’t found anyone dead in my house today so there’s that.” I find that funny. Comedy has always been my way to cope with anything. And if finding humor in the death of a comedy teacher is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
Joke Zoom & me
I moved back to Long Island in late October 2019. My father was living in the house my mother’s parents had built in Stony Brook — he bought it from my grandmother, Judy Clarke. My father died and I got the house (with a huge second mortgage).
In February, I did the best set of my life at the Greenwich Village Comedy Club. When I left that night, I told myself, “2020 is going to be my year!” And we all know what happened about three weeks later. The world shut down and 2020 was no one’s year. Except maybe Covid. Covid had a banner year.
